Our golf club has a wide range of members and memberships available. See some of the detail of these golf club memberships below.
The Ladies Section is a very active and sociable part of the Golf Club with almost 150 playing members. Ages range from junior girls through to ladies in their 90’s and from complete beginners to single figure handicap golfers. We pride ourselves in being friendly and welcoming and with so many members of varying standards new members fit in easily.

‘What’s it like to be a new member at Henbury Golf Club? Well, I joined the club not really knowing anyone and within a month I had been introduced to more people than I can remember. For starters, you have a coffee with the friendly new members’ committee lady and a couple of other lady members. This was very informal and not at all scary. Over coffee I was told how the club ran and from that a date to play golf was arranged. Then a welcome card arrived from the Ladies’ Captain. From my first game, and meeting other ladies in the club house, other games were arranged. All the ladies were friendly and they helped me obtain my first handicap. Even the wind and rain did not stop them staying with me to mark my card.
So even if you know no one it’s ok as everyone is so friendly and helpful. I would recommend joining Henbury Golf Club, just please don’t ask me to remember everyone’s names.’
Working ladies are a really important part of the section. We accommodate their restricted times to play on the course where possible and run monthly medals, roll ups (for all abilities), Trophy competitions and some BDLGA league matches at the weekend. We try to be as inclusive as possible and if there are no formal arrangements, you can always make your own.
We play in many Gloucestershire County golf competitions and have won the Gloucestershire County Team Championship a record 26 times! As a club we enter the Bronze, Nett and Gross Team Championships and as individuals support many other County competitions and Veteran (Vets) events.
Henbury ladies have two teams in the BDLGA League, our A Team in Division 1 and B Team in Division 2. Each team is made up of seven players, chosen in handicap order to play against six other clubs both home and away. Henbury A Team won Division 1 in 2015 and came second in 2016 and our B Team was promoted to Division 2 in 2016.
We also enter the BDLGA Scratch and Handicap Foursomes knockout competitions each year.
Much of the golf played here is both friendly and fun with away days, invitation days, all year round fun competitions, a Club Open and Friendly Team matches. The latter are popular and well supported by approximately 40 ladies during the season and are played against other local clubs. They offer the opportunity for mid and higher handicap golfers to play home and away matches in an unpressured atmosphere, followed by tea and socializing.
Mixed golf is well supported within the club and a sociable and fun way to integrate with other sections. Events include Cup competitions, knock-outs, Bank Holiday competitions, an annual match between the seniors and ladies and golfing holidays both in the UK and abroad. Partners can always be found and many friendships have been made by the enthusiasm of members to enter mixed competitions. Ladies often remark on having to play balls from completely unchartered places, and men enjoy playing in a slightly less competitive atmosphere!
This information provides you with an insight to the activities of the Seniors Section of Henbury Golf Club.
The Seniors is a very friendly section who welcome golfers of all abilities. The Seniors Section is a large and vibrant section within Henbury GC with well over 250 members and is open to all male members of the Club, aged 55 years or older for a cost of, currently, £5 per year. Free membership of the Section is available to all male members of the Club 80 years of age or over and to Life Members of the Club.
The purpose of the Section is to promote both social and competitive golf activities with a view to developing a friendly and pleasant environment in which Henbury members can meet and play a sociable round of golf.
As well as members of the Seniors Section being eligible to play in competitions and events organised by the Men’s Section, Seniors also enjoy their own programme of events. These are organised for times during the normal working week making it perfect for those who have taken advantage of the 5-day membership option. The Seniors section also has 8 medals/cups which are normally played on Mondays. Entry for these competitions is via the Intelligent Golf system, normally two weeks in advance. These competitions are open to all with a valid handicap.
During the year the Henbury Seniors play 30+ matches home & away against other local golf clubs including Bristol & Clifton, Minchinhampton, Knowle, Long Ashton, Clevedon, Saltford, Chipping Sodbury, Weston Super Mare. This is an excellent way of playing different courses & meeting and playing with new friends in a sociable but competitive environment. These are open to all Seniors section members. It is a good way to meet Henbury Seniors and to play other courses. The format is better ball in pairs. The fixture list and match availability sheets are on the notice board and the fixture list is also in the Seniors area of the Henbury web site. These matches involve a convivial dinner afterwards with the opposition.
Once you become a member we recommend that you contact the Seniors’ Captain to talk about what you want from your membership of the Seniors – whether it be just social golf or something more competitive at Henbury or further afield. On joining the Seniors Section, you will be sent a welcome pack with a lot more detailed information. You will also have access to the Seniors Section web pages with a lot more information.
